Universal Design is the design of products and environments to be usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design (Ron Mace, 1985). While this concept was born out of architecture and design, it’s also important in the learning environment. In our UD section, we highlight benefits and resources for both areas and how UD is implemented for the Arizona campuses.
Our Commitment
The University of Arizona is committed to an inclusive and welcoming experience for all students, staff, faculty, and guests. We proactively remove barriers to access and reduce the need for individual accommodations in physical, work, and academic environments as well as events and programs. By including UD as a foundation for designing University experiences, we increase the level of inclusion and participation.
Arizona prioritizes UD across all campus environments and experiences.
